American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Pittsburgh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The fig rugelach was incredible. The garlic and sea salt bagel with fig cream cheese was a wonderful mix of sweet and salty. I'm partial to the texture of NY bagels, but the freshness of the bagels here is undeniably awesome. Very welcoming atmosphere that seems to serve a wide range of clientele from all walks of life.

Pigeon Bagels is one of those places that reminds you why supporting local businesses matters. Every time we've eaten here there's something new and special to try, it can be quite fun, the bagels and pastries are incredible. (the line usually speaks for itself πŸ˜„). Great food is one thing, but seeing a hardworking business that seems to genuinely care about its employees, its community, and making a positive impact is something special. Pigeon feels like the kind of place that's building more than a business, it feels like they're helping build a stronger community. We're lucky to have them in Pittsburgh.

Absolutely worth it! We did get lucky as it started pouring rain right before we arrived meaning there was zero line and we go our food in 2 minutes. Best whitefish I’ve ever had!

The best authentic bagel shop in the Pittsburgh region. The vibes, coffee and schemer are delicious. There is usually a line but it’s worth the wait. Inside the shop they have a strict 5 person limit, it’s a small shop so it makes sense. They have awesome clothing and bags + tasty treats. It’s usually busy so head over on off hours!

By far the best bagels in Pittsburgh, and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve even started driving them back home to my parents in Detroit. The bagels are always consistent: perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. On my first visit I was a little disappointed there weren’t any egg-and-cheese sandwich options, but once I tried their lox, I never looked back. The line can get very long (especially on summer weekends), but it’s 100% worth it. I always order an everything bagel, but I’ve also heard great things about their rotating bagel-of-the-month.
